The Desert Comes Alive with a Brand New Championship Golf Course
The New Mexican desert was once part of the Wild West ... today it is home to one of the finest public golf courses in America. The rolling bluegrass fairways and undulating bent grass greens meander through the sun drenched desert, and make the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course a spectacular place to play.

The course opened in 2000 and was immediately nominated by Golf Digest as a Best New Course. It holds a 3-1/2 out of 4 star ranking on Golf Digest's Places to Play list.

Southwest Golf, the Austin, TX firm that has constructed many notable courses, was retained to oversee the construction. Cal Olson, the internationally-known designer, was brought aboard to create and design the layout of the golf course.

Olson took advantage of the rolling terrain and desert landscape to create a lush green course that winds through the Mesilla Valley, with the jagged peaks of the Organ Mountains within close range you can not avoid noticing the great beauty of Sonoma Ranch.

There are desert style courses in Scottsdale, AZ that are renowned, but they are much more expensive than Sonoma Ranch. "Our theory has been to take a little bit of Scottsdale and move it to Las Cruces," the developer said. The result is a spectacular course in the New Mexican desert that offers challenging golf that is highly affordable.
