An Oasis in The Desert

When one thinks of the desert, one thinks of sand. There's plenty of sand on the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course. But there are also lush green fairways which, set against the deep blue sky, create a startling contrast. It's an oasis in the desert.

The course, by well-known designer Cal Olson, rolls up and down the desert hills. The challenge comes from the length, with a number of long holes, although there are five tee boxes, so you don't have to be a long hitter to succeed. Every hole is dotted with sand traps, so sand comes into play frequently.

There are only a few water hazards. The course is best known for its undulating bent grass greens, which vary in difficulty, according to Olson. The size and slant of the greens change, depending on the length and layout of the hole.

With the challenging golf comes enchanting desert scenery, with breathtaking views of the Organ Mountains, Picacho Peak and the MesillaValley. The course plays 7,028 yards from the championship tees, with a number of challenging holes.
